Nordic Visitor in Scotland organises river clean up

The Edinburgh team of Nordic Visitor recently traded keyboards for gloves and joined The Water of Leith Conservation Trust for a river cleanup organised by their Sustainability Committee.

The Edinburgh team of Nordic Visitor recently traded keyboards for gloves and joined The Water of Leith Conservation Trust for a river cleanup organised by their Sustainability Committee.

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust works to protect and enhance one of Scotland's most important urban waterways. As Scotland's first river charity, the Trust is out on the river 2-3 times weekly with volunteer groups. They maintain walkways, remove invasive species, tend wildflower meadows, and keep the river clean.

Their mission goes beyond conservation; the Water of Leith serves as a haven for wildlife biodiversity and an educational and recreational resource for the community. Through hands-on volunteer work and community gardens, the Trust raises the profile of this environmental asset and promotes local action to protect it.

The Water of Leith is a favourite spot for locals and visitors and runs through the city where most of the Nordic Visitor Scotland team lives.  While some of our Visitor volunteers tackled overgrown vegetation and rescued road signs, others waded into the water to hunt for rubbish, helping to keep this waterway healthy.

As event coordinators Isabel Davies and Asta Tarvydaite shared:

“Getting waist-deep in Edinburgh’s waterways isn’t exactly in our job description, but it was one of the best team days we’ve had! Our hosts, Johnny and Dan, were so entertaining and informative. We learned lots about the local geography while making a real difference to the river. Plus, we finished the day with a well-earned picnic!”

Big thanks to The Water of Leith Conservation Trust for the partnership and the fantastic Nordic Visitor Edinburgh team for their efforts.
